Netflix has taken an exciting step forward in the world of filmmaking by launching a brand new initiative aimed at uncovering the next wave of documentary talent across the United Kingdom.

The Documentary Talent Fund will provide ten selected filmmakers and their respective teams with a production budget ranging from £20,000 to £40,000 to create their own short documentary films. Throughout the process, participants will receive expert mentorship from Netflix professionals and other industry figures, ensuring fair pay for all those involved while also prioritising those who have historically been underrepresented in the filmmaking world.

The fund welcomes applicants from all walks of life, whether you are a seasoned film student, someone who has always dreamed of working behind the camera, or even a person whose passion for filmmaking was put on hold due to life's circumstances. Prior experience is not a requirement, as the programme has been carefully designed to support and nurture participants at every stage of production.

Each completed documentary must run between 8 and 12 minutes in length. The finished films will be featured on Netflix UK's social media platforms, with the possibility of further development down the line. The creative brief given to all participants is: "Britain's not boring and here's a story."

Kate Townsend, Director of Original Documentaries at Netflix, expressed her enthusiasm, stating that the platform is eager to hear bold, witty and unexpected stories from across Britain, regardless of an applicant's level of experience.

Applications will open from January 4th through to January 31st, giving aspiring filmmakers the holiday period to begin developing their ideas.
