David Gersten, a distinguished theatrical publicist and marketing strategist whose influence shaped Broadway and Off-Broadway productions for over three decades, passed away on April 6 following a short illness related to pancreatic cancer. He was 67 years old.

His professional journey included collaborations on memorable revivals such as Jonathan Larson's tick, tick… boom! and Stephen Sondheim's marry me a little, alongside unconventional long-running productions including naked boys singing! and tony n' tina's wedding.

Since establishing his boutique agency, David Gersten & Associates, in 2000, he delivered comprehensive publicity and marketing services to an eclectic portfolio of theatrical clients.

Most recently, Gersten became part-owner of the newly restored Ninth Avenue Saloon, a theater district institution operating for more than four decades and recognized as one of New York City's oldest LGBTQ+ establishments.

Born and raised in New York, he also dedicated himself to volunteer firefighting on Fire Island, where he kept a seasonal residence, achieving the rank of lieutenant.
