Netflix has secured worldwide rights to Owen Trevor’s heartfelt family adventure, Go Karts, excluding Australia and New Zealand. In those regions, Roadshow Films is set to release the film theatrically on January 16, 2020, under the title Go!

The film is directed by Owen Trevor, known for his work on Top Gear, and written by Steve Worland, who previously adapted Paper Planes into a novelization. Worland has also published a book based on the film in Australia, with plans to release it in the United States soon.

Produced by Jamie Hilton and Sonia Borella of See Pictures, the project benefits from a collaborative production effort involving key executives such as Joel Pearlman, Michael Pontin, Josh Pomeranz, Dave Hansen, and Canadian-based Aqute Media’s Berry Meyerowitz and Jeff Sackman.

The cast features William Lodder, Richard Roxburgh, Anastasia Bampos, Darius Amarfio-Jefferson, Frances O’Connor, Dan Wyllie, Cooper Van Grootel, and Damian de Montemas.

The story follows 15-year-old Jack, who, after his mother relocates them to a new town, discovers a passion for go-kart racing. With guidance from a retired race-car driver hiding a mysterious past and the encouragement of new friends, Jack must learn to tame his impulsiveness to vie for the national championship.

Go Karts joins Netflix’s expanding lineup of live-action family films, which includes titles like the 2019 comedy Tall Girl, directed by Nzingha Stewart and produced by Wonderland; the 2020 musical Feel the Beat, directed by Elissa Down and starring Sofia Carson; The Main Event, directed by Jay Karas in partnership with WWE Studios; A Babysitter’s Guide to Monster Hunting, helmed by Rachel Talalay; and Finding Ohana, directed by Jude Weng.
